Mariginiup Shiraz 2008
Winestate magazine - World's greatest shiraz challenge
Sept/Oct 2010
Earthy/licorice nose and lively, rich, layered, dark, vibrant fruit palate with some complexity, and good quality oak in the background. 4-stars
Mariginiup Shiraz 2008
James Halliday Wine Companion 2011 Edition
For several decades before shiraz assumed cult status, was the flagship wine of Paul Conti; has very good colour and excellent balance; the black fruits of the medium-bodied palate are supple and fine, tannins in perfectly judged support. 92/100

Ray Jordan's 2011 WA Wine Guide
Plenty in here with the powerful fruit coming from very low yielding vines. It's rich and concentrated with an endless flow of dark plum, cherry and earthy dark chocolate. Firm tannins and a solid oak treatment for a wine that will cellar in the medium term. 89/100
Mariginiup Shiraz 2007

An immensely powerful shiraz still wrapped in a blanket of substantial oak. Beneath it though, there is fruit of concentration and depth with opulent flavours, firmish tannins and stacks of lingering power. A wine that will cellar in the medium-term. 89/100.

What a humdinger!!! Has twice the life and joy of its predecessor and shows a welcome return to the style we have loved over many years. Attractive, lifted fruit flavours, full of berries and joy, matched with a gorgeous shot of wood. If ever a wine showed the smile of the winemaker, this is it. Congratulations. Beaut wine.

Smells like chocolate pudding with caramel sauce! Oak tends to cover some great ripe fruit. Good level of drying tannins.

Dark purple wine with an estery, lavender-like nose showing a touch of leatheriness. The palate is big, powerful and oaky. Put it away for a while.

Dense colour, the intensity of which is repeated on the nose and palate. Nose has distinct blackberry/nettle nuances and signs of ripe fruit. Palate is remarkably full-on for the established style of the label and a what-you-taste-is-what-you-get impression is inescapable.

In this wine is a mouthful of complex flavours encompassing coffee bean, vanilla, blackberry and raspberry jubes held together with soft tannins to form an approachable shiraz that sings oh so sweetly in the glass.

Plenty of dark ripe fruits overlayed with substantial oak that’s just a little edgy at the moment. With time, the plump juicy ripe fruit will emerge from beneath the cloak of oak. Balanced and elegantly poised. 88/100

This is about as good an example of this wine as have tasted. It’s a cracker. Beautiful oak treatment, great fruit and a sensationally fine and poised palate. The flavours are intense and expertly harness with the oak and tannin mix. As stylish as it gets. 93/100

Boy, this packs such solid flavour into an impressive package. Huge whack of concentrated fruit showing characters of coffee, licorice and chocolate with hints of savoury plum and earthy notes. The palate is deep and plummy with a firm solid thread of oak and tannin. Impressive and good for the cellar.

Big, rich, ripe style we've come to know and love from Mariginiup. Soft and complex with the fine tannins and perfectly balanced with new and seasoned American and French oak. Over delivers for the price.

It’s all here: generous ripe, medium to full bodied with voluptuous fruit surrounded by a cradle of mainly American oak and a little French. If you want a finer, more elegant style, look elsewhere. This is soft and full and friendly, yet complex balanced by long gentle tannins. Bingo!

Deep red-purple; the complex bouquet has an abundance of dark berry/mulberry fruits supported by subtle oak, the palate rippling with rich, dark berry/savoury/dark chocolate flavours. Good tannin and extract management round off a classy wine.

A rich and ripe, complex bouquet leads to a wonderland of flavour: full bodied, well balanced style of plummy, dark chocolate fruit with clever use of new and seasoned American and French oak. Unanimously voted a great and “friendly” wine. 4 stars

Medium to full red-purple; a clean & smooth bouquet with gentle ripe black cherry fruit & correspondingly gentle oak is followed by a generous, ripe & rich palate, offering black cherry, chocolate & soft tannins, again complimented by attractive oak.
